President Kim Il Sung and the children
President Kim Il Sung and the children
The children of the DPR Korea followed President Kim Il Sung (1912-1994) by calling him "Our Father, Generalissimo" rather than as the leader of the country. As much as that, the President's interest and love for children was extremely warmest and compassionate.
In his Reminiscences, “With the Century,” President Kim Il Sung wrote that loving future generations means loving the future. Our country will now be built as a flower garden the size of a hundred flowers by those children. Let's take better care of and take care of our descendants for the future of our country and the future of mankind! It can be said that this is my viewpoint of generation that I have maintained without change until today, when I am 80 years old.
Because of such a viewpoint of generation, the President was always with the children and showed all kinds of love.
Among the anecdotes about his passionate love that he returned to future generations, there are also stories like this. During the anti-Japanese armed struggle to achieve the liberation of the country (Aug. 15, 1945) from the military strength of Japanese imperialism in the past, President Kim Il Sung saw dozens of naked and starving children in Mt. Maan in northeast China. He took out 20 won of money that he had kept precious. In terms of money, it was a profound amount of money that my deceased mother gave to him after saving a dime or two after putting all of his effort into it. When the members who knew this story fervently dissuaded him, he said, “Our revolution is a revolution for future generations, how can we say we are making a revolution if we can’t feed them properly and wear them properly?” He bought fabrics to dress the children. Today, in the DPR Korea policy to supply children with clothes for free by the state started from this noble will of the President.
His love for the future generation was the most devoted and active love among the loves, held by human.
He called children the “kings” of the country and made the slogan “The best thing is for children!” as a national policy. He was the man who said that we are working for whom, the loss of the nation for future generations is not a loss, and let's build a children's palace in the best place. Therefore, in 1963, when the country was not living well, the Pyongyang School Children's Palace, the largest building in the DPRK at the time with a construction area of 50,000 square meters, opened up, and in 1989 the Mangyongdae School Children's Palace, which was more than twice its size, opened again, and Children's Palaces, School Children's Halls and Children's Union Camps have built up everywhere in the country.
The President said that if someone asks him what time is the most joyful and happiest, he will answer that the time of special joy and happiness is when he is in the children, country's flower buds and that this is his view of happiness that determines his life.
Therefore, despite his busy schedule due to the affairs of the state, he made sure to attend the children's New Year celebration every year.
The children of this country are still singing songs about the president eagerly, while they are languishing for him who was always with the children and was smiling like the sun.
