Dear colleagues, the participants in the seminar held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of demise of Comrade KIM JONG IL.
I am sure that the participants in this seminar are those who adhere to the Juche idea or are keen to study it scientifically as an idea guiding the independence of mankind, homelands and nations, and those who take the opportunity to address the vitality of the Juche idea in terms of its origin and application.
The greatness of the Juche idea is its vitality in the matter, its comprehension of all times. It is appropriate for each human being wherever he is on the face of the earth because it calls for the liberation of man and makes him the most precious beings, makes the masses of the people the masters of the revolution and construction, and places them in the rank of heaven so that they are innovated to be the active subject of history.
Although foreign scholars often describe Juche as “self-reliance,” the true meaning of the term is much more nuanced. Kim Il Sung explained: “Establishing juche means, in a nutshell, being the master of revolution and reconstruction in one’s own country. This means holding fast to an independent position, rejecting dependence on others, using one’s own brains, believing in one’s own strength, displaying the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance, and thus solving one’s own problems for oneself on one’s own responsibility under all circumstances.
The Juche idea has been studied and disseminated vigorously and continuouslyeven under the collapse of socialism and the complicated world situation. This shows that the world acknowledge the scientific accuracy and truthfulness of the Juche idea. Truthfulness of progressive ideology is decided by to what extent it is disseminatedand how long it maintains its viability. Not only in the past historic period but now the Juche idea has proved its invinciblevitality in the revolutionary practice in many countries, and thus has become theapproved truth and universal doctrine.
Comrade Kim Jong Il said:
“[The Juche Idea] is a philosophy which has been elaborated and systematized, focusing on man. […] This means that the Juche philosophy raises the fundamental question of philosophy by regarding man as the main factor, and elucidates an outlook on the world, a viewpoint and attitude towards the world, by focusing on man.”
There had been many philosophies in human history but they were idealistic world outlook that centered on spirit or mysterious beings like “god” or the matter-centered materialist world outlook. Of course there were some philosophies that placed man in the fore, in the past. So did the human philosophy. Human philosophies originated long ago and had a various sects but they purely dealt with human problems. Human philosophy is no more than a philosophy of life that only discusses the problems of what human being is and what human life is.
The Juche philosophy gave new viewpoints on the essence of the world and law of its development that the world is dominated and transformed by man and the world develops by man’s active role and in the direction of serving man and in keeping with the development of man. It also clarified the new viewpoint and attitude that one should proceed from man’s interest on the basis of Juche-oriented viewpoint on the world and that one should approach the world with his activities as a main.
Comrade Kim Jong Il defended and developed the purity of the Juche Idea . He systematised and enriched the Juche idea in his historic 1982 thesis "On the Juche Idea ". This work constitutes an almanac of the Juche idea which clarified its philosophical essence and that man has independence, consciousness and creativity. Thus the Juche idea shines out a philosophy for achieving the independence of the popular masses . The Juche idea is a powerful weapon for achieving human emancipation from all kinds of misery and oppression.
When socialism was frustrated in some countries owing to the treachery of modern revisionism comrade Kim Jong Il energetically defended socialism and wrote brilliant works such as "Our Socialism Centred on the Popular Masses Shall Not Perish , "Abuses of Socialism are Intolerable" "Socialism Is A Science , " Giving Priority to Ideological work is essential for accomplishing socialism" and many others provided a source of hope for the people aspiring to socialism.
The great leader comrade Kim Jong Il led the cause of anti-imperialist independence throughout the world. Songun politics was an inspiration to the peoples struggling against imperialism and the Juche Idea a powerful compass for defeating imperialism. The many works written by comrade Kim Jong Il are a guiding compass for the fighting peoples of the world. The DPRK became associated with the defence of the socialist principle , thus encouraging the world people in their struggle for socialism.
Although ten years have passed since comrade Kim Jong Il passed away , the vitality of his ideas shines even brighter today and his work is carried forward by his successor dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un . People's Korea ,which was the legacy of comrade Kim Jong Il , today is prospering despite the extreme sanctions of the imperialists.
