 On the Occasion of the 84th Birth Anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong Il 

Laying Secure Foundations for Building a Powerful and Prosperous Country Chairman Kim Jong Il accomplished the immortal exploits in the effort to lay firm foundations for building a powerful and prosperous country. With the passage of time the Korean people cherish the memory of his ennobling life in their mind. 

In the mid-1990s, when they had to undergo a hard time of Arduous March as the destiny of their country was at stake, the Chairman opened up a wide avenue for the building of a prosperous country, always sharing weal and woe with the people. 

By putting forth a new line of economic construction on developing the defence industry on a priority basis while developing light industry and agriculture simultaneously, he clearly indicated the direction and ways for the building of an economic giant. 

Thanks to his energetic guidance the metallurgical, chemical, power and other backbone industries got steadily on an independent standing, modern light industry bases mushroomed across the country to help raise the people’s standard of living, and the land underwent complete realignment as befits the socialist Korea. All this constituted a valuable wealth for the development of the nation’s independent economy. 

As Chairman Kim Jong Il devoted all his life to the good of his country and people, his exploits will remain brilliant for ever and ever with his ever prospering country.
